The College of Pharmacy is one of St. Louis' oldest colleges. The Academic Building kicked off the largest construction project in the college's history and set the stage for the college to become globally prominent in pharmacy and healthcare education.

The building's architecture is largely dictated by the irregular, triangular shape of the site and the programmatic elements located within. The six-story tower provides an element signifying campus entry while the two-story library/auditorium with an outdoor roof plaza atop provides a more intimate connection to campus. Glazing connects these two elements along the north façade creating unobstructed views of activities within and outside the building. This same glazing element is articulated along the east façade, capturing vistas of the St. Louis skyline from the large open spaces of the research floors and supporting the growth of the research programs.
